Track 4. The growing city and the green city: transforming urban economies and the challenges of global warming

Track co-ordinators: Dr. Jan Erling Klausen (NIBR, Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research) and Dr. Marte Winsvold (NIBR)

Cities are deeply linked with the causes of climate change and, at the same time, are at the forefront of a battle to change. This track aims to explore the continuously changing ways in which cities confront socio-ecological issues in relation to the economic restructuring which resulted from the global crisis, in a context shaped by policies stimulating competition between cities. Aspects such as the role of the public sector in delivering economic change and the manner in which post-socialist cities manage to regulate market development are of particular interest to this track.
