Track co-ordinator: Prof. Liviu Chelcea (University of Bucharest)
This track focuses on the social and cultural transformations of the cities, as they unfold under processes of capitalism uneven development. Possible themes include urban deprivations and exclusions, infrastructural violence and bypassing of utility provisions in poor neighbourhoods, austerity urbanism and the militarization of urban governance. We also seek to explore how the current crises produce new housing, spatial, penal and policing policies towards the poor. Having in mind the urban dimension of highly visible protest movements such as those in Turkey or Brazil, the track also aims to explore the socially motivated mobilization of urban dissent.
