Track 2 – The democratic city: institutional reforms and policy processes

Track co-ordinators: Prof. Colin Copus (De Montfort University) and Dr. Katarzyna Szmigiel-Rawska (University of  Warsaw)

This section of the conference focuses on institutional reforms of city government structures and the changes in the styles of policy-making and policy implementation. It explores recent reforms of city government structures in Western and Eastern Europe and elsewhere in the world and their consequences, especially in the area of policy-making. It approaches the ways in which urban governance is delivering change (and the unavoidable tension with grassroots democracy) and explores the role and contribution of (formal and emergent) leadership in the economic, social and environmental transformation of cities and regions.
